THE EFFECTS OF COMMUNICATIVE LANGUAGE TEACHING (CLT) COMBINED WITH GAME-BASED TECHNIQUES ON ENGLISH LEARNING ACHIEVEMENT AND LEARNING ATTITUDES OF GRADE 10 STUDENTS

Abstract

This study aimed to: 1) investigate the effectiveness of instructional activities based on the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) approach combined with game-based learning techniques in enhancing the learning achievement of Grade 10 students in the English , 2) compare the students’ post-instruction achievement scores with the criterion-referenced benchmark of 60 percent, and 3) examine students’ attitudes toward learning English through these CLT-based instructional activities. The participants consisted of 40 Grade 10 students selected through cluster random sampling using a classroom draw method. Research instruments included: (1) six structured lesson plans designed specifically for the English for Daily Life curriculum, incorporating CLT principles and game-based strategies, delivered in 2-hour sessions over a total of 12 hours; (2) a 30-item multiple-choice test to measure English language achievement, with a reliability coefficient of 0.96; and (3) a 15-item questionnaire assessing attitudes toward English learning via CLT and game-based methods, developed using a five-point Likert scale with a reliability coefficient of 0.84. The research followed a one-shot case study design. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and a one-sample t-test for statistical comparison.

The findings indicated that:

1. The students’ learning achievement after the instructional intervention demonstrated a mean score of (x̄ = 24.85) (SD = 2.50) out of 30, representing 82.83 percent.

2. The average score was statistically significantly higher than the 60 percent criterion at the .05 significance level.

3. Students exhibited highly positive attitudes toward English learning through the CLT and game-based instructional approach, with an overall attitude mean score of ( x̄ = 4.39) (SD = 0.48), reflecting strong engagement and motivation throughout the learning process.

การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ 1) ศึกษาผลสัมฤทธิ์ทางการเรียนภาษาอังกฤษ ของนักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 4 หลังได้รับการจัดกิจกรรมการเรียนรู้ตามแนวการสอนภาษาเพื่อการสื่อสาร (CLT) ร่วมกับเทคนิคการใช้เกม 2) เปรียบเทียบผลสัมฤทธิ์ทางการเรียนภาษาอังกฤษ ของนักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 4 หลังได้รับการจัดกิจกรรมการเรียนรู้ตามแนวการสอนภาษาเพื่อการสื่อสาร (CLT) ร่วมกับเทคนิคการใช้เกม กับเกณฑ์ร้อยละ 60 3) ศึกษาเจตคติต่อการเรียนรู้ภาษาอังกฤษด้วยกิจกรรมการเรียนรู้ตามแนวการสอนภาษาเพื่อการสื่อสาร (CLT) ร่วมกับเทคนิคการใช้เกม ของนักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 4 โดยกลุ่มตัวอย่างที่ใช้ในวิจัย คือ นักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 4 จำนวน 40 คน สุ่มโดยวิธีการสุ่มตัวอย่างแบบกลุ่ม (Cluster random sampling) จากการจับฉลากเลือกห้องเรียน เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัย ได้แก่ (1) แผนการจัดกิจกรรมการเรียนรู้วิชาภาษาอังกฤษในชีวิตประจำวัน ชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 4 ตามแนวการสอนภาษาเพื่อการสื่อสาร (CLT) ร่วมกับเทคนิคการใช้เกม จำนวน 6 แผน แผนละ 2 ชั่วโมง รวมทั้งสิ้น 12 ชั่วโมง (2) แบบวัดผลสัมฤทธิ์ทางการเรียนภาษาอังกฤษ รายวิชาภาษาอังกฤษในชีวิตประจำวัน แบบปรนัย จำนวน 30 ข้อ มีค่าความเชื่อมั่น 0.96 และ (3) แบบวัดเจตคติต่อการเรียนรู้ภาษาอังกฤษด้วยกิจกรรมการเรียนรู้ตามแนวการสอนภาษาเพื่อการสื่อสาร (CLT) ร่วมกับเทคนิคการใช้เกม เป็นแบบมาตราส่วนประมาณค่า (Rating scale) 5 ระดับ จำนวน 15 ข้อ มีค่าความเชื่อมั่น 0.84 รูปแบบการวิจัยเป็นแบบกลุ่มเดียวทดสอบหลังการทดลอง (One-shot case study design) สถิติที่ใช้ในการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูล คือ ค่าเฉลี่ย และส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน การทดสอบค่าที (t-test for one sample)

ผลการวิจัยพบว่า

1. ผลสัมฤทธิ์ทางการเรียนภาษาอังกฤษ ของนักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 4 หลังได้รับการจัดกิจกรรมการเรียนรู้ตามแนวการสอนภาษาเพื่อการสื่อสาร (CLT) ร่วมกับเทคนิคการใช้เกม พบว่า มีค่าเฉลี่ย เท่ากับ 24.85 คิดเป็นร้อยละ 82.83 (x̅ = 24.85, SD = 2.50)

2. ผลการเปรียบเทียบผลสัมฤทธิ์ทางการเรียนภาษาอังกฤษ ของนักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 4 หลังได้รับการจัดกิจกรรมการเรียนรู้ตามแนวการสอนภาษาเพื่อการสื่อสาร (CLT) ร่วมกับเทคนิคการใช้เกม กับเกณฑ์ร้อยละ 60 พบว่า นักเรียนมีคะแนนเฉลี่ยจากการทดสอบหลังการเรียนเท่ากับ 24.85 คะแนน จากคะแนนเต็ม 30 คะแนน ซึ่งสูงกว่าเกณฑ์ผ่านที่กำหนดไว้ที่ร้อยละ 60 อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่กำหนดไว้ที่ .05

3. ผลการประเมินเจตคติต่อการเรียนรู้ภาษาอังกฤษด้วยกิจกรรมการเรียนรู้ตามแนวการสอนภาษาเพื่อการสื่อสาร (CLT) ร่วมกับเทคนิคการใช้เกม ของนักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 4 พบว่า นักเรียนมีระดับเจตคติต่อการเรียนรู้โดยรวมอยู่ในระดับมาก (x̅ = 4.39, SD = 0.48)
