Creation of abstract paintings from an analytical study of traditional Thai paintings. Case study of the murals of Wat Suwannaram Ratchaworawihan Bangkok

Abstract

This study aims to create abstract artworks inspired by the study of mural painting techniques and styles to develop abstract paintings influenced by traditional Siamese craftsmanship. The researcher focuses on examining the painting processes , artistic elements, colors, and shapes to reinterpret and reassemble these visual elements into abstract works with a unique personal style of the researcher.

The study specifically explores the mural paintings by two master painters: Luang Wichit Jessada (Khru Thong Yuu) and Luang Senee Boreerak (Khru Kong Pae). These murals, which remain in excellent condition, provides clear insights into the painting techniques.

The research focuses on three overlooked aspects of mural composition: 1) The color schemes used in the murals, 2) The composition of the murals, and 3) The depiction of objects The findings from these analyses are used to create ten new abstract paintings, which are then presented to the public both through exhibitions and photographic documentation. Resulting in the following conclusions: 1) The abstract paintings demonstrate a connection to Thai traditional painting, 2) The series is noted for its distinctive use of color, composition, technique, and novelty, 3) This work has received a high level of satisfaction with the works, and 4) The value of this series of works lies in offering a fresh perspective on painting, showcasing unique and individual characteristics, and integrating traditional Thai painting with contemporary style.

งานวิจัยการสร้างสรรค์ผลงานจิตรกรรมนามธรรมจากการศึกษาเชิงวิเคราะห์รูปแบบของจิตรกรรมไทยประเพณี กรณีศึกษาจิตรกรรมฝาผนังวัดสุวรรณารามราชวรวิหาร กรุงเทพมหานคร มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อสร้างสรรค์ผลงานจิตรกรรมนามธรรมที่ได้รับแรงบันดาลใจจากการศึกษารูปแบบและเทคนิคทางจิตรกรรมไทยประเพณี เพื่อนำมาสร้างสรรค์เป็นผลงานจิตรกรรมนามธรรม โดยมุ่งเน้นศึกษากระบวนการทางจิตรกรรมในด้าน องค์ประกอบทางศิลปะ กลุ่มสี รูปทรงของวัตถุ เพื่อนำทัศนะธาตุทางศิลปะมาปรับเปลี่ยนและถอดประกอบใหม่ให้เป็นงานจิตรกรรมนามธรรมที่มีลักษณะเอกลักษณ์เฉพาะตัว

ผู้วิจัยเลือกศึกษาผลงานจิตรกรรมในพระอุโบสถวัดสุวรรณารามราชวรวิหาร กรุงเทพ ซึ่งเป็นผลงานจิตรกรรมที่ถูกรังสรรค์ขึ้นในสมัยรัชกาลที่ 3 โดยจิตรกรเอกชั้นครูสองท่าน คือ หลวงวิจิตรเจษฎา (ครูทองอยู่) และหลวงเสนีย์บริรักษ์ (ครูคงเป๊ะ) ที่ยังคงสภาพที่สมบูรณ์ สามารถศึกษาร่องรอยและกระบวนการทางจิตรกรรมได้อย่างชัดเจน

งานวิจัยได้ศึกษาจิตรกรรมต้นฉบับในสามประเด็น 1. กลุ่มสีในงานจิตรกรรม 2.การวางองค์ประกอบในงานจิตรกรรม 3.ลักษณะการเขียนภาพวัตถุที่ประกอบในงานจิตรกรรม และนำข้อสรุปจากการวิเคราะห์ทั้งสามกลุ่มมาประกอบสร้างสรรค์ผลงานจิตรกรรมขึ้นมาใหม่ จำนวน 12 ชิ้น นำเสนอสู่สาธารณะชนทั้งในรูปแบบนิทรรศการและการนำเสนอผ่านภาพถ่าย ได้ผลสรุปดังนี้ 1. ผลงานสร้างสรรค์จิตรกรรมนามธรรมแสดงให้เห็นความเชื่อมโยงกับจิตรกรรมไทยประเพณี 2. ผลงานชุดนี้มีลักษณะเด่นด้านการใช้สี การจัดวางองค์ประกอบของภาพ วิธีการระบาย และความแปลกใหม่ของผลงาน 3. มีความพึงพอใจต่อผลงานอยู่ในระดับเกณฑ์มาก 4. คุณค่าของผลงานชุดนี้อยู่ที่การสร้างมุมมองใหม่ในงานจิตรกรรม มีลักษณะเฉพาะและเป็นเอกลักษณ์ และสามารถผสมผสานงานจิตรกรรมประเพณีไทยไปสู่ความร่วมสมัยได้
